Ground Pork Chili Ingredients
Find the full list and quantities in the printable recipe card below.
Pork - I use 1 ½ lb of ground pork which will give you 6 portions of chili.
Beans - For ease I use canned white beans, cannellini or great northern beans are my go to. However, you can use any variety of canned bean in this recipe.
Tomatoes - I use canned diced tomatoes in this chili recipe.
Seasonings - I flavor the chilli with ground cumin, chili powder, sweet smoked paprika, black pepper and sea salt. Feel free to adjust the seasoning to suit your own taste. Like a hotter chili add more chili powder, prefer a milder chili then reduce it.

Season the ground pork with sea salt and pepper and sauté in olive oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat. Break the meat up with a wooden spoon and move it around the pan until browned - around 5 to 7 minutes.
Add the diced red onion and sauté a further 5 minutes, stirring occasionally then stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute before adding the ground cumin, chili powder and smoked paprika.
Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant then add the diced tomatoes (with their juice).

Add the chicken broth and the drained white beans and stir well again.
Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for around 15 to 20 minutes until it is slightly thickened.

Ladle into bowls and top with your favorite garnishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ground pork good in chili?
Yes, ground pork is a tasty meat to use in a chili recipe as pork has a slightly sweet, meaty flavor which works well with the spices in the dish. It's also a nice change if you're bored of chicken or ground beef!
What are the best toppings for chili?
When it comes to topping your chili, you can get really creative. Here are some suggestions:
- Sour cream
- Cheese - try shredded sharp cheddar, Monterey jack cheese, or crumbled cotija
- Sliced green onions or Quick Pickled Shallots
- Different types of chili peppers - try sliced fresh red chili, green chilies, jalapeno peppers, or my Pickled Serrano Peppers or Pickled Red Jalapeno Peppers.
- Salsas - pico de gallo, guacamole, sweetcorn salsa
- Hot sauce, chili sauce or Tabasco pepper sauce
- Fresh herbs - cilantro or parsley
- Lime wedges

Variations & Substitutions
Swap the ground pork for ground beef, ground turkey or ground chicken. Alternatively try a combination of both ground pork and beef.
The white beans can be swapped for any different varieties of beans, try canned red kidney beans (red beans), black beans, pinto beans or even chickpeas.
Add other veggies to the chili, try red bell pepper, poblano peppers, mushrooms, celery, carrot.
Adjust the spice level to suit your own tastes, you could also add ground coriander, cayenne pepper, taco seasoning or red pepper flakes.
Tips & Tricks
If time allows make this chili ahead of time. This chili is a great make ahead dish and tastes even better the day after it's made as this gives the flavors a chance to intensify.
I've deliberately kept this chili mild so the whole family can enjoy it! If you like a spicier chili feel free to add extra chili, hot sauce, or top with sliced green jalapenos.
Finish with a splash of apple cider vinegar or lime juice to brighten the flavor.
To add even more depth of flavor, try adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder.
How To Serve
I like to serve pork chili with either steamed white rice or a bowl of tortilla chips which are perfect for dipping into the chili. I also like to serve a variety of different toppings and garnishes (see favorite toppings earlier in the post).
Toppings are a great way of allowing family members to adapt the recipe to their tastes. For example, those who like their chili extra spicy can add some pickled jalapeno peppers, or a splash of pepper sauce. Those who like their chili milder can leave them off.

How To Reheat
Chili is a great made ahead dish, you can make it up to 3 days ahead and store in the refrigerator in an airtight container. When ready to enjoy, place the chili into a large pot and heat over a medium/high heat until piping hot.
How to Freeze
Pork chili is easy to freeze, I often double the recipe, enjoying half now, and freezing the rest for a quick and easy dinner next time.
Once cooked and completely cooled, place the chili into an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, defrost in the refrigerator, before heating up to piping hot.
