I make my cottage cheese dip with fresh herbs, so it tastes fresh and vibrant. Cottage cheese curds are often dismissed as bland or 'diet food'. But they have a great mild, fresh flavor and are packed with protein, which we often need to eat more of.

My kids love this creamy ranch dip. So for a healthy after school snack, I serve this cottage cheese veggie dip with a colorful variety of fresh veggie sticks (and the odd chip!)

    Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip Ingredients

Cottage Cheese - The main ingredient in this easy dip is a container of cottage cheese. You can use full-fat cottage cheese or low fat, whichever your preference.

Greek Yogurt - I swap the sour cream for Greek yogurt which adds a thick texture to this delicious dip recipe.

Herbs & Seasonings - I like to use a combination of dried seasoning including garlic powder and onion powder, sea salt and pepper; which I combine with fresh herbs including fresh dill, parsley and chives.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is cottage cheese really cheese?

Cottage cheese is a mild tasting and fresh flavored cheese, made from the curds of cow's milk. It is eaten fresh and not aged like most other cheese varieties.

    Is cottage cheese healthy?

Yes, cottage cheese is low calorie and lower in fat compared with other cheeses. It is high in calcium and protein, which keeps us feeling fuller for longer, so a good addition to a healthy and balanced diet.

How to make cottage cheese taste good?

Cottage cheese has a very mild and fresh cheese flavor. To give it more flavor add other fresh ingredients to it, like fresh herbs. Try some finely grated lemon or lime zest, or fresh fruit like tomatoes, berries or chopped stone fruits.

As well as seasoning cottage cheese with sea salt you can also sweeten it with a drizzle of runny honey, or maple syrup.

How long can you leave cottage cheese dip out of the fridge?

Cottage cheese is a soft cheese, so this dip should only be left out for an hour or two, no longer. After two hours it is best returned to the refrigerator.

    Variations & Substitutions

    • I've used a cup of cottage cheese as this base of this dip, but you could also use cream cheese.
    • You can substitute the plain Greek yogurt with sour cream.
    • Swap garlic powder for a little minced fresh garlic clove.
    • You can also swap the garlic and onion powder for dried ranch or your own ranch seasoning mix.
    • Use any variety of fresh herbs to flavor the dip, try basil, cilantro or tarragon.

    Tips & Tricks

    • I like the thick texture you get from using full-fat cottage cheese and Greek yogurt which are ideal for a dip. You can use low fat cottage cheese, a yogurt if you prefer, or for a thinner dip.
    • For a smoother consistency, add a little milk.
    • Taste the dip before serving and add extra seasoning if needed.
    • Fresh herbs make the best dip here, don't be tempted to substitute with dry herbs.

    How To Serve

Serve this healthy veggie dip at your next party, or game day get-together and watch everyone tuck in. Serve the dip chilled, straight from the refrigerator with pita bread, toasted pita chips, or your favorite tortilla or potato chips. It also goes amazingly well with Roasted Sweet Potato, Smashed Cheesy Potatoes and my 3 Ingredient Oven Baked Potato Wedges.

This creamy dip makes a great snack on the go, or healthy after-school snack. Serve it with your favorite veggies, try carrot sticks, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, bell pepper, celery or cucumber, or florets of cauliflower or broccoli.

    How To Store

Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give the dip a stir to recombine the ingredients before serving.

    How to Freeze

I don't recommend freezing cottage cheese dip as the cheese and yogurt can break down and become grainy and watery during the freezing and defrosting process.
